I did most of the VMware testing including View on my Fusion. Due to the VDI client, I need to disable the fusion's DHCP coz I will be using the DHCP on my AD server. The following command help to kill the process... sudo kill -15 `sudo ca t /var/run/vmnet-dhcpd-vmnet1.pid` Or You can always find the dhcpd.conf and disable from here as well... I'm trying to setup a shared storage for ESXi HA and vMotion demo purpose on VMware Fusion. I guess the easiest way with be enabling the native NFS in Mac rather than powering another iSCSI storage such as OpenFiler, FreeNAS, Lefthand VSA, VMware VSA, etc..  To view your VMnet, type ifconfig in Terminal. Edit  /etc/exports :  sudo vi /etc/exports  Add a line like the following (I'm using NAT network for my ESXi network, hence using the VMnet8 interface with the range of 172.16.17.0/24.): /Users -maproot=root -network 172.16.17.0 -mask 255.255.255.0 Enable  nfsd :  sudo nfsd enable Test your work:  showmount -e You can view the nfsd status:  sudo nfsd status To restart the nfsd :  sudo nfsd restart You can now try to connect ESXi to the NFS or using Mac's Finder to test the connection. To determine if Intel VT or AMD-V are enabled in the BIOS: Log in to the   ESX host   as the root user. You can use tools like PUTTY. Run this command: # esxcfg-info|grep "HV Support" The output of the HV Support command indicates the type of Hyper-visor support available. These are the descriptions for the possible values: 0 - VT/AMD-V  indicates that s upport is not available for this hardware. 1 - VT/AMD-V  in dicates that VT or AMD-V might be available but it is not supported for this hardware. 2 - VT/AMD-V   indicates that VT or AMD-V is   available but is currently not enabled in the BIOS. 3 - VT/AMD-V   indicates that VT or AMD-V is enabled in the BIOS and can be used.

I've just powered on 2 ESXi 5.0 on Fusion successfully with hardware virtualization (VT) supported. By default, VMware Fusion will not enable VT for some reason and clearly running ESXi 5.0 on Fusion is not recommended for production and mainly is used for demo or POC purpose. Below if the configuration for my build:- MacBook Pro with Mac OS X 10.6.8 Processor: 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7 Memory: 8GB 1067MHz DDR3 Hard drive: 250GB SSD Disk  VMware Fusion 4 (Support ESXi 5.0 from the menu) However, I've not able to enable FT when configuring the VMware HA within the Custer. Somehow it shows that the CPU does not support hardware virtualization that is required for reply... If you are able to enable FT, please do let me know how... desperate looking for an answer... Recently I've got this problem connecting to Eastin Hotel WiFi on my Macbook. After further investigation, I noticed Eastin Hotel WiFi's gateway is pointing to 172.16.0.1 which is also the same vmnet1 IP address configured if you have VMware Fusion installed on the Macbook. There are 2 options to avoid this problem. First option is to change the vmnet1 IP to some other IP network range or get Hotel to change their GW (which I don't think it's possible at all). Second option make more sense. Temporarily disable the vmnet1 to avoid the routing conflict.  You can run Terminal to do so. 1. Type Ifconfig for the list of available adapter 2. You will noticed the vmnet1 has the IP address of 172.16.0.1 and vmnet8 has the IP address of 172.16.17.1. In any network, you can't have 2 similar IP connected and this will confuse the network routing. 3. If you have no idea which IP is conflicting, just disable both vmnet1 and vmnet2 as shown below:- sudo ifconfi

I've just got my new iPhone 4 replacement due to the Home button problem... You can now jailbreak IOS 4.3.3 with www.jailbreakme.com. Just launch Safari, and type www.jailbreakme.com, and install Cydia. Due to the Home button problem, I've further explore if we can use iPhone without the Home button. Surprisingly, the Home button is no longer required. Once you have install Cydia, you probably want to download SBSsettings (Cydia>>Featured>>SBSsettings). Reboot your iPhone once SBSsettings is installed. You can now configure Activator to replace the Home button. For example, you can swipe down on the status bar to replace Home button, Double Tap to activate Switcher (double click Home button), swipe left to replace Sleep button, etc... You can now edit the hosts file with a jailbroken iPhone/iPad. Download the hosts file using tool like FileZilla. Default location is /etc/hosts. Download Notepad++ and edit the file. I've edit the file and convert it to ANSI under the Encoding menu. Once completed, upload the file back to the default location.  Try to ping the DNS... It should works!

I found it interesting when people want to consolidate or virtualize their datacenter x86 servers, most peoples always question on the hypervisor licensing cost and NOT cost per application. What it really matters today is how much you will be paying based on one instance application (or VM which is refer by most peoples). What most of the technology vendors like Microsoft, Citrix and Redhat did not tell you is they somehow will still charge and mare money from selling management tools like Microsoft SCVMM, Citrix Enterprise and management tools, KVM annual licensing maintenance, etc... Well, think about it... if one company is giving free stuff all time, how much development funding they will get to continue to enhance and support the product? Frankly speaking, running your datacenter on technology not mature like HyperV, you probably are losing mind... With VMware vSphere 5.0 today, it can supports monster VMs (32 vCPU and 1TB RAM) which make more sense to drive both consolidation

So, if we take DL380G7 with 460W, running 24x7, total per server power consumption is 4018.56KWH. Rate per year per server, 4018.56KWH x RM0.43 = RM1272.98. Factoring in the cooling load at 1X (2.0 PUE) puts the annual energy cost per server at RM3,455.96. For 750W, rate per year per server is RM5634.72 For 1200W, rate per year per server is RM9015.55 You probably can take 20%-30% off from the number presented above assuming that these servers are somehow energy saving for best case.

SQL 2005 log shipping can work without AD. It can run on standalone but you will need to create a local user account with local admin rights with same username and password at both source and destination SQL server. Once user created, configure the SQL server service and SQL agent service to start with this account. Always remember to restart the services mentioned before proceeding to the following steps.  Make sure the following are ready:- 1. The hosts file is in the hidden /etc folder so it is ruled by the superuser "root". You have two choices: Enable the root user so you can login with super powers; or use Terminal. I prefer doing with Terminal. Editing in Terminal is really quite easy. Launch Terminal. Type sudo pico /etc/hosts and hit return.

Just managed to pass my VCP 410 (Vmware vSphere Install, Configure and Manage). My score: 369, Passing Score: 300, Total Question: 85.  I've got this braindump from someone and it's pretty useful to pass the exam. However, I noticed there are changes on the questions.
