vSphere Replication bandwidth requirement

Further to this blog... http://blogs.vmware.com/vsphere/2011/10/vsphere-replication-bandwidth-1.html and this: http://blogs.vmware.com/vsphere/2011/10/vsphere-replication-bandwidth.html In theory, 100mbps LL can transmit ~ 45GB per hour, that's around 1TB per day (24 hours). With 70% utilization, we are looking around 700GB of data can be transmitted in 24 days. Block level changes is not equal to changes between two interval. A single file can be changed 100 times in 1 hour, but there will be only one block level change if RPO is 1 hour. The file can be 1mb change every time, with 100 times, we probably are expecting 100mb data changes. However, with RPO 1 hour, we are looking the differences compare with the last snapshot capture. This could be only 1mb or less than 1mb changes.  It is not easy or rather no simple calculation can be used to calculate the bandwidth requirement. It is always recommended that we will monitor the bandwidth utilization when vSR is enab

Kasset -> IGB Reit

2,730,000,000 / 520,997,000 = 5.24. Each Kasset will give u 5.24 IGBReit. Kasset will have a total cash of 1,212.559M + 670M (IPO) = 1,812.559M cash From there, the distributable sum is 1,266.990M. 1,266,990,000 / 520,997,000 = RM2.43 per share. Therefore: Buying 1k of Kasset today would have cost you RM7,400. You will get back RM2,430 cash + 5,240 IGBReit. (RM7400-RM2430)/5,240=RM0.948 per unit of IGBReit Theoretical IPO Price is RM1.00. so yeah, you do get some sort of discount. Market is super efficient...     that is why it never goes beyond RM7.60.. I still have so much to learn...    If you buy Kasset at 9.17, your average IGBReit will be at RM1.28626. If you buy Kasset at 9.5, your average IGBReit will be at RM1.34924. Of course, with the RM2.42 per share cash return. Cash distribution will only be announced later, expected to be Q1 2013.  KrisAsset paper

Cloudfroundy.com

Trying this for the first time in life... No experience in Java programming, linux, etc... but managed to get the Micro CloudFoundry setup in less than 30 minutes... Info needed moving on:- jkuan.cloudfoundry.me User registered - jkuan@vmware.com Before running vmc, you need to install it first... sudo gem install vmc For Sinatra, you also need to install it first... sudo gem install sinatra

IOPS vs Throughput (MBps)?

 (with the answer typically converted to  MegabytesPerSec ) Some ballpark numbers: Device Type IOPS Interface Notes 7,200  rpm   SATA  drives HDD ~75-100 IOPS [2] SATA 3  Gb/s 10,000 rpm SATA drives HDD ~125-150 IOPS [2] SATA 3 Gbit/s 10,000 rpm  SAS  drives HDD ~140 IOPS  [2] SAS 15,000 rpm  SAS  drives HDD ~175-210 IOPS  [2] SAS Solid State Devices ranges 60,000 to 400,000 IOPS depending the type of brand/model and connectivity (SATA cable (3g/6g), FC/InfiniBand, or PCIe).  Info from - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IOPS As of Jul 2012, the SSD max throughput is still below 600MBps for SSD and 1GBps using PCIe technology. SATA cable can transfer max 6Gbps (or 768MBps - 6Gbps/6bit). With PCIe, this can double to 16Gbps (or 2048MBps). There is a need to seriously look into the storage design how the disk should be connected (SATA cable or PCIe) for optimum performance. Or else, you would buy an expensive SSD which will be underperformed due to the throughput.  SSD - http

SQL Server IO - How well is the Disk I/O performing?

Microsoft has released a free tool - SQLIO (Download at  http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=20163 ) Intel initially has developed IOMeter which is now open source can be download at http://www.iometer.org/doc/downloads.html Both tools are pretty easy to use. Of course, SQLIO provide more advance testing scenario by choosing the right parameter, such as number to threads, file size, read/write, random/sequential, block size, buffer cache, etc... I've seen 2 good sites that explain pretty well with SQLIO command... pls see... http://www.mssqltips.com/sqlservertip/2127/benchmarking-sql-server-io-with-sqlio/ http://www.sqlteam.com/article/benchmarking-disk-io-performance-size-matters However, I still no no idea what's the actual number we should be look at... I created the batch file as shown below. @echo off cls :start echo Testing IO... SQLIO.exe -kW -s60 -frandom -o8 -b8 -LS -Fparam.txt timeout /T 60 SQLIO.exe -kW -s60 -frandom -o8 -b256 -

Jailbreak iOS 5.1.1 for iPhone 4s

First, upgrade iOS 5.1.1 via iTunes Then, download absinthe from http://absinthejailbreak.com/download-absinthe-2-0-jailbreak-5-1-1-untethered/ Following the instruction attached or video... http://absinthejailbreak.com/untethered-jailbreak-5-1-1-absinthe-2-0-video/ I've used 2.0.4 version. SRM 5.x support Essential Plus?

It is clearly stated in VMware SRM compatibility matrix web -  http://www.vmware.com/support/srm/srm-compat-matrix-5-0.html, that Essential/Essential Plus is not supported. However, in some VMware official website, http://www.vmware.com/products/site-recovery-manager/buy.html, SRM 5.x supports any two instances of vCenter Standard or Foundation. This is where the confusion. Essential Plus does include 6 ESXi standard license and 1 vCenter for Essential. Yes, vCenter for Essential... this is a totally different version compare with vCenter Foundation (http://www.vmware.com/products/datacenter-virtualization/vsphere/small-business/compare-kits.html). As of today, SRM 5.x can only works with vCenter Standard or Foundation, with ESXi Standard, Ent, and Ent+. Will they support Essential Plus moving on? Let's wait and see...

What You Need to Know About Per VM Licensing

http://www.vmware.com/support/licensing/per-vm/ As IT continues to virtualize and move towards IT-as-a-Service, software licensing needs to evolve to account for actual product consumption rather than arbitrarily licensing the physical hardware from which consumption is abstracted. With virtual machines now being the new unit of consumption, IT organizations need flexible deployment and licensing options that are more usage-based versus server-based. Since September 1, 2010, VMware has begun offering some Infrastructure, Management, and Application Platform products using per VM licensing. Moving to Per VM Licensing vCenter CapacityIQ vCenter Chargeback vCenter Site Recovery Manager vCenter Operations vCloud Director vFabric 5 How Per VM Licensing Works Per VM licensing is more flexible. Rather than requiring licenses for every server deployed, you only need licenses for the average maximum number of virtual machines that are managed. Let’s look at an example: Per VM licensin

iPhone Cydia Source

Many friends asking Cydia source. After jailbreak successfully, you need to configure Cydia... I'm trying to maintain a long list here... 1. Open Cydia in iPhone 2. Goto Manage >> Source >> Edit >> Add 3. Type the following source (mostly used):      - http://cydia.hackulo.us      - http://www.sinfuliphonerepo.com      - http://thebigboss.org/betarepo      - http://repo.benm.at 4. How to install Siri on iPhone 4?

I've tried this yesterday and confirmed it's working. You just need to follow the instruction given, and keep on trying on "Hi Siri". I did this on iPhone 4 with IOS 5.0.1. However, it is not working on my friend's iPhone 4 since yesterday. Follow this link - http://www.iphonestuffs4u.com/how-to-install-siri-on-iphone-4-3gs/
